The Book Of Eli Closing scene Mise-en-scene: The protagonists costume is significant as he is dressed in all white which makes him look almost angelic which mirrors his faithful and committed character and even presents him as the messenger of God that he is implied to be. He is now baud and clean shaven, this physical change to his appearance makes Eli look younger and untouched by the cruel world that he had to endure, it almost looks like he is preparing himself to go to heaven.  Endless amounts of bible pages that Eli has mouthed out are a significant prop as it shows Eli's decadaction to his faith, bring able to remember the entirety of the Holy book. The Book Of Eli Film Opening  Plot-  This sequence's narrative consists of an unknown protagonist shooting a cat with and arrow after a camera pans along a forest floor. The audience is given very little information of the situation which creates many enigmas about the unknown character and the world that the film is set. The uses Barnes' Hermeneutic code as the audience will watch on to find out what is going on and to answer the questions the opening creates .  Mise-en-scene- The use of props in the sequence is very effective as the gas mask keeps the protagonist's identity hidden which creates a narrative enigma that will creates a curiosity for the audience. The leaves falling creates a sense of Autumn and decay insinuating that the apocalypse has ruined the world as we know it and that decay is the "norm." Conventions of the Post-apocalyptic genre  Levi Stratuss (Binary Opposites)  Levi Stratuss came up with the theory in which there are a pair of related terms or concepts that are opposite in meaning. They are an opposite set of values which reveal the structure of media texts. For example is Good and Evil and Life and Death. The values do not contradict one another but instead complement each other. The theory suggests you can't have one without the other maybe in a symmetrical way.  Another example is Heaven and Hell.  The post-apocalyptic genre is a very diverse as many different people have different takes on how the world ends. This gives many writers creative freedom within the genre.
